Boulder General Dentistry Services
Advanced Gum Care
Even if you brush after each meal and floss daily, a general check-up is still vital to your oral health. Bacterial plaque is always forming on your teeth – no matter how many times a day you brush – and is the leading cause of periodontal disease if left untreated. Periodontal Disease is also linked to heart disease, diabetes, pneumonia, and some cancers. Interestingly, it has also been linked to increased complications for patients with COVID-19.
Treatment for bacterial plaque will help prevent gum recession and bone loss and can be done in a quick visit to your dentist’s office. At Whole Family Dentistry, we offer a wide range of treatments that will slow, stave off, and restore the damage done from all stages of periodontal issues. One of the most efficient options we have for healing gums is our safe and effective laser. Laser dentistry selectively kills harmful bacteria and painlessly removes damaged or infected tissue.
Natural Composite Dental Fillings
We’ve been Mercury-Free for 27 years and counting
Cavities are one of the most commonly treated issues at any dentist’s office. When it’s time to get a cavity filled, today’s more advanced composite tooth fillings and composite restorations lend strength to your damaged tooth and are repairable. If a composite chips, we can bond the new composite to the older composite, creating a unified restoration. We do not use mercury amalgam metal fillings ever. Our composite restorations come in a variety of colors, so they can be matched to the color of your teeth – letting you have a more natural-looking smile. Learn more about our other restorative options.
Natural composite dental fillings are comfortable, aesthetic, and offer a functional long-lasting restoration.
Overall Health and Oral Health
Visiting your dentist regularly is incredibly important in maintaining your dental and overall well-being. Having a thorough oral exam regularly can help detect signs of nutritional deficiencies or systemic diseases, including microbial infections, immune disorders, injuries, and some cancers. Interestingly enough, if your body is not in tip-top shape, your mouth is sometimes the first to show signs and a wealth of information can be derived from examining your oral tissues.
We use advanced technology during your oral exam to screen for and detect oral cancers. OralID’s enhanced screening allows us to discover cancers at an earlier stage for improved treatment and outcomes

Pediatric Care
We offer dental cleanings and exams to kids of all ages. Our dental office places a special emphasis on interceptive orthodontics. Detecting issues early, before the adult teeth set in and the jawbones have fully developed, can prevent unnecessary teeth removal in the future. We want to improve jaw development and allow for the child to grow with a healthy, beaming smile. The perfect time to seek an orthodontic assessment is when the child is between ages 6 and 8.
Patient Comfort
We believe that our patients’ comfort and care is of the utmost importance. Whether having a simple teeth cleaning and check-up or getting a filling, we strive to make our patients comfortable and relaxed. Which is why we use NuCalm, a drug-free relaxation system to help our guests disconnect from any nervousness they might be feeling. This three-part system can take effect in minutes after being set up quickly; however, the benefits last for hours, meaning you’ll leave here more relaxed than you came in!
We also provide our guests with headphones, music, pillows, blankets, and warm towels to put around their necks to help them be as physically comfortable as we can. At Whole Family Dentistry, we make dental procedures feel like a spa day!

FAQs
What Causes Cavities?
Cavities are caused when the bacteria in your mouth attaches itself to the enamel that covers your teeth and turns into plaque. The plaque on your teeth releases acid that erodes your enamel and causes cavities.
What is Gum Disease?
Gum disease is the primary cause of tooth loss. Also known as gingivitis, gum disease will attack your gums, bones, and your whole body. When the bones around your teeth dissolve, your teeth will eventually fall out. Gum disease is an infection caused by plaque, and some early warning signs of gingivitis are tender, puffy, red, or bleeding gums. The only way to combat gum disease is through regular, professional cleanings at routine dental visits.
How Often Should I Get a Dental Checkup?
Most people should go to their dentist for a dental checkup twice a year. However, depending on your oral health, you may need to visit the dentist more regularly. Having regular checkups can help prevent disease, decay, and tooth loss.
How Expensive is General Dentistry?
Here at Whole Family Dentistry we understand that dental treatment can be a big financial commitment for our patients. For your convenience we accept cash, check, Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express and CareCredit. We also work with a local bank to help finance your dental financial needs. We deliver high quality dental care to all of our patients at the most reasonable cost. Payment for treatment is due at the time of service unless prior arrangements have been made. As a courtesy, if you have dental insurance, we will file your dental claim for you as long as you provide our staff with all of the correct insurance information. Your dental insurance company in turn will pay you directly based on your insurance plan benefits. Please feel free to call Kaydene or Cheryl with any questions at 303-442-8625.
Why is mercury used in fillings?
Mercury is an inexpensive option to fill teeth. Mercury has unique binding properties that allow it to be an effective way to fill teeth. However, mercury is extremely toxic. Though it is usually safe, there is a possibility that it can leak out of the filling and into the body, potentially causing adverse health reactions. This is why we do NOT use mercury fillings and have found safer and better alternatives.
What are safer alternatives to mercury fillings?
At Whole Family Dentistry, we provide the safest options for you and your family. We do not want to run the risk of any of our patients’ health for the quick savings of amalgam - or mercury - fillings.
Instead, we use Natural Composite Dental Fillings. Composite Fillings are made from a resin with ground glass fillers that is the same color as your tooth - unlike mercury fillings. In addition to being safer, Composite Fillings also look a lot better than amalgam fillings.
A Composite Filling is especially great for chips on those front, visible teeth; the filling blends right in, unlike mercury-based fillings.
